Get Accredited Help Using AHCCCS and AIHP at Purpose Healing
Recent headlines make clear that drug and alcohol abuse is a widespread problem in Arizona, as well as in the indigenous communities of our state. Despite this, many people don’t get the help they need.
Too often, people seek help at a Native American recovery center and find that all of the spots are full or that the specific services, like detox, they need aren’t available. Even more frustrating is the fact that few Joint Commission-accredited treatment programs in Arizona accept AIHP. And finding a treatment center that does accept AIHP and Arizona Medicaid is often critical for those enrolled.
Purpose Healing Center is here to help. Our treatment center provides a safe and supportive environment for those overcoming substance abuse and mental health concerns and accepts most forms of health insurance, including AIHP. So, what should you know if you’re looking for Native American treatment centers in Arizona?
Let’s go over substance abuse and mental health in the Native American population first. Then, we’ll talk about our locations and their proximity to local Native American communities, the conditions they work with, and what to expect in treatment.
An Overview of Substance Abuse in Native American Communities
While it is a broad term, the Native American community faces some health conditions at higher rates overall. Research shows an increased prevalence of substance use disorders, trauma, violence, suicide, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among Native American or indigenous people. Historical trauma, marginalization, and drug and alcohol overdose are also very prevalent in the Native American community.
Anyone can experience addiction, but overcoming it is more than possible with appropriate treatment methods. As a Joint Commission-accredited drug and alcohol rehab center offering services to Native Americans and others with a broad range of backgrounds, we will listen to your needs.
Purpose Healing Center has expert-level trauma-informed mental health professionals who provide therapy and other services.

What Conditions are Treated at Purpose Healing Center?
We treat both addiction and mental health concerns for our clients. In turn, our treatment center is suitable for a wider variety of people and families who need help compared to other centers nearby.
Here’s a brief overview of the conditions we treat. If you want to find out whether the Purpose Healing Center works with a specific condition, concern, or substance abuse issue, please give us a call.
All Forms of Alcohol and Substance Use Disorders
At Purpose Healing Center, we offer substance use disorder treatment for all types and levels of addiction. Our treatment center addresses alcohol addiction, methamphetamine and stimulant drug addiction, cocaine addiction, marijuana addiction, opioid addiction, prescription drug addiction, and other kinds of substance abuse, including addictions to ketamine and psychedelic drugs.
Specialized Programs for Dual Diagnosis Clients
Dual diagnosis treatment is advised for people with substance use disorders and one or more accompanying mental health concerns. If you are in need of Native American addiction treatment services and have co-occurring mental health issues, we can help.
In some cases, substance abuse leads to new or worsened mental health symptoms; it can also be a way of self-medicating mental health concerns. Treating co-occurring disorders in conjunction with addiction is known to lead to better treatment outcomes.
Evidence Based Treatment for Mental Health Disorders
In addition to dual diagnosis and addiction treatment programs, Purpose Healing Center provides standalone mental health treatment. Our mental health programs are designed for people facing mental illness and other mental or behavioral health concerns.
Mental health conditions treated include but aren’t limited to grief, trauma, depression, other mood disorders, schizophrenia and related disorders, anxiety disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Aftercare planning is also an integral part of substance use disorder treatment. Before you are discharged from your treatment program at Purpose Healing Center, we’ll help you create a custom aftercare and relapse prevention plan to support your continued recovery. Free support groups like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and ongoing therapy services are two examples of what you might choose to include in your aftercare plan.
Medically Supervised Detox Services
Many Native American addiction treatment centers do not offer detox. However, going to a detox program is often a crucial step in the initial recovery process. Not only can withdrawal come with a high potential for relapse, but in some cases, withdrawal symptoms can be dangerous if they aren’t properly addressed.
Our detox program is designed to help you safely discontinue substances and achieve physical stability under the care of qualified medical professionals. Detox lasts about 1-2 weeks. After detox, you can transition into an inpatient or outpatient treatment program, where you’ll learn the tools necessary to build a lasting recovery.
Inpatient and Outpatient Treatment Options
Our residential treatment clients live on-site for the duration of their program. During the day, residential treatment (or inpatient) clients have a full therapy schedule. Outside of group therapy, individual therapy, and other parts of your schedule, you’ll have some downtime to recharge and enjoy our amenities. Meals are provided.
Some clients considering inpatient or residential treatment are concerned that they will not get to interact with family while in rehab, but this is not the case. Not only is family involvement encouraged, but you will be able to stay in touch with family members while in residential treatment at Purpose Healing Center.
Outpatient clients live at home or in sober living facilities nearby. We offer multiple outpatient treatment options, including our partial hospitalization program (PHP), intensive outpatient program (IOP), and outpatient program. Outpatient care is ideal for those who need to continue tending to work, school, or family and home life while in treatment. It can also be used to help you transition out of a higher level of care.
