Getting Substance Abuse Treatment Covered by UHC

Substance abuse treatment programs have not always been covered by health insurance providers. In the past, policies may have had an exception for mental health and addiction treatment services. If you had a pre-existing condition, they could refuse coverage for that issue.

That is a thing of the past with the Affordable Care Act.

The Affordable Care Act passed in 2010 mandates that insurance companies must cover drug rehab centers and other mental health issues to the same degree that they cover medical and surgical issues. Substance use disorder is one of ten essential health benefits that enable more clients to receive the care they need to heal.

Similarly, insurance companies can no longer refuse to cover you for pre-existing conditions when your policy renews each year. That means you can continue to seek treatment for a substance use disorder, trauma, and mental health. Even if you have had a diagnosis for years, your coverage will not run out.

Rest easy knowing that your insurance coverage for rehab must extend to substance abuse treatment, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that every facility is an in-network provider.

What Does United Healthcare Insurance Cover?

Maybe your primary care physicians recommended that you seek a higher level of treatment than what they can provide on an outpatient basis. The question is: What does your insurance provider cover for substance use or mental health concerns? Understanding your United Healthcare insurance coverage is key.

UnitedHealth group insurance will vary depending on your unique plan’s deductible, copayments, and the specific treatment center you select. Out-of-network services are going to be more expensive than in-network providers in most cases. Purpose Healing Center is happy to be an in-network provider for UnitedHealthcare insurance to minimize the costs of your treatment.

You don’t have to be an expert to figure out what your insurance will cover for substance misuse. Allow our admissions team to walk you through the process and verify your insurance benefits today. We can give you clear answers on what you can expect with a confidential call.

Paying for Treatment for Alcohol or Drug Addiction and Co-Occurring Disorders

Purpose Healing Center is in-network for United Healthcare, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you will not owe anything for treatment (though in many cases, all costs are covered). Even if there are out-of-pocket costs, we are affordable and work with most insurance plans to ensure that you or your special someone get the coverage you need to get better.

If you do find that you will have some out-of-pocket costs for behavioral health services, you might want to discuss your options for payment with an enrollment counselor. We may be able to offer you a payment plan or a sliding fee scale to make treatment more accessible for you.

Allow us to get to the bottom of what your insurance provider will cover so that you can take the first steps toward healing. We offer a level of support for every client which might make it easier for you to find treatment you can afford, even without United Healthcare insurance.

We Accept United Healthcare Insurance at Our Drug Rehab Centers

Purpose Healing Center is proud to accept United Healthcare insurance as an in-network provider for addiction treatment, trauma, and mental health. We offer a range of services to provide you with the perfect degree of support for your path to lasting and successful recovery. From medical detox to outpatient care, we want to be there for you every step of the way.

Here is what you can expect from your insurance coverage at Purpose Healing Center’s locations in Phoenix and Scottsdale.

Medical Detox to Kickstart Addiction Treatment

Medical Detox to Kickstart Addiction Treatment

For many clients, the first step toward sobriety is a medical detox where you can safely allow drugs and alcohol to leave your system. The early days of sobriety can be extremely challenging and physically uncomfortable, so why not allow our team of medical professionals to support you?

In our Joint Commission-accredited medically supervised detox setting, you will have around-the-clock access to the care you need in the safety of a facility that ensures you have access to substances.

We can also prescribe medications to make you more comfortable. For example, we may offer prescriptions to help you sleep or to settle your nausea and vomiting. You also have access to counselors whenever you need to talk to someone about your experience.

You may spend only a few days detoxing, but it can have a lasting impact on your sobriety when you step down to our residential or inpatient treatment services.

Inpatient Treatment Services for Intensive Care

If you have struggled with drug abuse for any length of time, or seen a loved one endure the same, you likely know that a few days of medical detox is not going to be enough to maintain your sobriety. Long-term recovery depends on the level of support you receive early in the process, which is why Purpose Healing Center recommends that you transition to residential care for thirty to ninety days following detox.

Here, you will have access to 24/7 care in the confines of our comfortable facilities in Scottsdale or at our Phoenix location.

We provide you with the latest evidence-based treatments and therapies. Our proven approach to addiction treatment ensures that you have a solid foundation for your sobriety when you leave. Both individual therapy and group therapy provide you with a framework for coping skills when you leave our rehab centers.

Our PHP: Partial Hospitalization to Transition to Daily Life

Once you have a foundation established for your sobriety, United Healthcare insurance will also cover your partial hospitalization (PHP) program with Purpose Healing Center as an in-network provider. This is more intensive than traditional outpatient and gives you the best transition back to your daily life.

PHP requires you to spend all day in our facility, receiving the same treatment services you would have received in an inpatient setting. This includes individual and group therapies, complementary therapies, and even support groups. This occupies most of your time, but then you get to return home to sleep in your bed at night.

This provides an excellent transition period before you segue to more traditional outpatient and have more freedom.

Our Intensive Outpatient Program and Stepping Down to IOP

Intensive Outpatient Program

If you’re looking for rehab centers that accept United Healthcare insurance, you might want to ensure that you go with a facility that has an intensive outpatient program. IOP is less restrictive than PHP, but still offers you the support you need. You will spend nine or more hours in treatment each week.

In between appointments during intensive outpatient, you are free to come and go from our facility. This enables you to spend time with your friends and family, return to your day job, and put your new skills into practice while receiving the support you need to maintain sobriety.

From here, you can transition to regular outpatient as your insurance provider allows. Purpose Healing Center also accommodates outpatient services for United Healthcare.

Medication-Assisted Treatment and Other UHC Prescription Coverage Details

Alongside any of these levels of treatment, our medical team might determine that you would benefit from medication-assisted treatment. This can help treat mood disorders and anxiety and even lessen the symptoms of PTSD. There are also medications like naltrexone and buprenorphine that can be used to combat the effects of alcohol and drug use.

United Healthcare insurance covers more than behavioral health. They also cover prescriptions and medication monitoring, at varying degrees, to ensure that you are getting the maximum benefit from your treatment.

You may first be prescribed short-term medications during medical detox, but Purpose Healing Center’s trained medical professionals will take their time determining if you could benefit from more long-term medication management for substance use or dual diagnosis.

Healthcare Coverage for Mental Health and Trauma Treatment

In addition to offering alcohol and drug rehab centers, Purpose Healing Center can also accept your United Healthcare insurance for mental health and trauma treatment. We provide excellent behavioral health services for a variety of challenges that may arise for you.

Here is what you can expect when you are referred to our facility for mental health.

Get Effective Mental Health Treatment at Purpose Healing Center

Our trained clinicians at Purpose Healing Center also evaluate your overall health when you enroll in one of our programs. Your mental health is a primary concern for us and we will work with your insurance company to limit out-of-pocket costs for you to receive the help you need.

Much like substance use, you might need 24/7 access to a safe environment, supportive staff, and even a separation from environmental triggers. Rest easy knowing that you are safe in our facility under medical supervision so that you can turn your attention inward.

We can assess to determine if you could benefit from more than just talk therapy. Medication-assisted treatment may be the best path forward for you to treat mood disorders, anxiety, and other conditions that may not improve with therapy alone.

Know that we are going to provide you with a custom treatment plan. There are no one-size-fits-all solutions to mental health, and we will treat you like the individual that you are.

We Offer Proven Trauma Treatment on Your United Healthcare Plan

Mental Health Treatment

In addition to more general mental health issues, United Healthcare plans also cover trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Purpose Healing Center will provide you with a safe environment to begin processing the events that happened to you.

Our skilled therapists are experienced with the long-lasting impact of trauma and we can offer the latest therapies, including:

  • Cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapies
  • Narrative exposure therapy
  • Prolonged exposure therapy
  • Alternative therapies like yoga and art therapy
  • Family therapy

Much like those who come to us for drug or alcohol abuse, many people will enroll in inpatient treatment for thirty to ninety days while we do intensive work on trauma issues.

Once you graduate from inpatient treatment, you can also transition to a more intensive outpatient program for additional support. This can be crucial as you will be exposed to triggers again and may require maintenance therapy to sustain your success for a while.

Keep in mind that we can also monitor your medications while in our care which can be a great asset to a robust treatment plan for PTSD (with or without substance misuse issues).

Our Dual Diagnosis Treatment Track Offers Comprehensive Support

For many clients, mental health and substance use are linked together. The rates of comorbid PTSD and substance use disorder are well documented. More than that, one in four adults with a serious mental health issue also struggle with substance use issues. We make it convenient to get comprehensive care for dual diagnosis.

Oftentimes, co-occurring disorders muddy the waters of substance use. They are inextricably linked and need to be treated together. Purpose Healing Center is happy to look at you as a whole person and to give you the support you need.

Your UnitedHealthcare insurance also wants to ensure that you get the help you need to truly improve your condition. If you treat substance use without tending to an underlying mental health concern, sobriety may not be long-lasting.

Allow us to walk alongside you with help for all conditions simultaneously. It may feel like an uphill battle, but our providers will be with you every step of the way. Don’t do this alone.
