Purpose Healing Center: Where Healing and Hope Converge through IOP Services

Offering a Trusted Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program

Experiencing mental health symptoms can be just as painful as a physical injury – a fact that’s hard for some loved ones to understand. Have you been attending once-weekly therapy, support groups, or other first-line treatments for your mental health concerns without any improvement? It’s time to consider stepping up to a mental health IOP, where you can receive structured, evidence-based support.

The supportive environment at Purpose Healing Center has helped many like you, those seeking treatment but needing a higher level of care than their weekly program provides. Our rehab facilities in Scottsdale and Phoenix provide mental healthcare and substance abuse treatment services for a range of mental health conditions.

The intensive outpatient program (IOP) is an ideal placement for clients who need help learning healthy coping skills but who don’t require the intensity of a partial hospitalization program (PHP) or inpatient treatment. Please keep reading to discover how our inpatient programs can truly change lives.

Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Our IOP program is an excellent starting point for clients struggling with mental health concerns like depression or anxiety. Many seek help from our treatment team after finding they need more support than their local community-based programs can offer. They are ready for change but need a boost from our team.

IOP programs are also beneficial as a step-down program for people completing inpatient treatment or a partial hospitalization program. The IOP provides continued support as they scale back from a higher level of care.

IOP program participants attend treatment 5 to 7 days a week, for a total of 9 to 15 hours of therapy. Each person’s individual needs dictate how much time it will take. Call us for a confidential assessment to learn more; we’re glad to answer any questions you have about our intensive outpatient program.

Who Benefits from Comprehensive Care in an IOP Setting?

Any older adolescents (18 and up) or adults who struggle with substance use and mental health issues but can still manage their daily life (school, work, children) may benefit from attending one of our two IOP locations. Those who attend an intensive outpatient program (IOP) successfully need stable housing, a supportive environment outside of therapies, and the ability to apply their new skills to their everyday routine.

An intensive outpatient program is not an appropriate setting for people who don’t have a healthy support network or stable housing. It’s also not a good option for anyone threatening or considering self-harm.

Will Was a First Responder Struggling with PTSD

‘Will’ is a Purpose Healing Center success story. He was an EMT, often responding to the worst situations. After a severe flood in his community, he was asked to serve on a recovery team to care for any survivors. They found nobody alive. The things he saw haunted him, and his mental health declined. When he started substance use, he knew he needed help to manage his stressors.

The psychiatrist at Purpose diagnosed Will with PTSD, the result of his traumatic experience. Will and the staff psychiatrist decided that the intensive outpatient program would be his best option. He started taking a prescription that quieted the flashbacks to the images. He also worked with counselors, where he learned breathing techniques that could ground him and bring him back to a calm space. He took a leave of absence to avoid worsening his PTSD while attending therapy several hours a day.

Will realized that his job had become too triggering and made a significant life change. While he loved being an EMT, he would need to make a change. Today, Will teaches at a local community college, teaching new first responders instead of working directly in the field. Besides training EMTs, he also became a SMART Recovery host and helps people overcome negative behaviors one night a week. Will is pursuing his dream of helping others while prioritizing his mental health.

Treatment for Improved Mental and Behavioral Health Outcomes

Mental Health IOP Services - Purpose Healing Center

At Purpose, you’ll work with a top-tier team of health care professionals. Our team assesses the challenges faced by each person individually and devises a customized treatment plan to address their unique needs.

No two treatment programs at our mental health center programs look exactly the same, as we connect patients with the therapies and services that best meet their individual needs.

Therapists and Psychiatrists Specializing in Behavioral Healthcare

All clients receive expert care from a psychiatrist, ensuring an accurate diagnosis. In some cases, the person may have a dual diagnosis, or a substance use disorder plus a second mental health diagnosis. An example of this situation is someone who becomes addicted to drinking alcohol to calm their anxiety.

Clients work with a primary therapist and may also meet other counselors. It takes a team of treatment professionals working together to help each client reach their treatment goals.

Individual Therapy Is the Core of an Intensive Outpatient Program

Psychiatrists Specializing in Behavioral Healthcare

In individual therapy and counseling, each patient discovers more about their mental health conditions, including the things that trigger them or how their reactions worsen them. They also learn coping skills to help manage their responses to stressors and maintain sobriety after treatment.

Group Sessions Help Individuals Apply Healthy Coping Skills

In addition to working individually, most clients enjoy working in peer groups. In group therapy sessions, program participants work together to master their coping tools and role-play avoiding the situations or people who trigger their drug use or psychological symptoms. Group therapy also helps reassure clients that they don’t struggle alone.

Family Therapy to Address Challenges After the Program

Family Therapy to Address Challenges After the Program

Families are critical in providing ongoing stability after completing the intensive outpatient program. Similar to group therapy, we work with family groups to help build skills in addressing their loved one’s mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, or substance use. Family members also learn new skills to help their loved one maintain their positive behaviors after the program ends.

Medication Management to Manage Symptoms Effectively

Even with the best of therapy, many will still need medications to keep their mental health symptoms well-managed. Medication management is the ongoing monitoring and adjustment of FDA-approved prescription medications. This practice ensures that patients receive the optimal dose and integrates with all facets of the intensive outpatient program.

Insurance Verification Allows You to Focus on Recovery

Some people never pursue professional care at an intensive outpatient program because they don’t understand that group health insurance often covers much of the cost of necessary therapies. If you’ve tried attending community programs once a week but haven’t seen significant improvement, it’s time to contact our admissions team.

We will review your insurance coverage and help determine whether intensive outpatient programs are a fit for your needs. In fact, insurance companies often approve IOPs more readily than PHP or inpatient treatment programs.

Not sure what to say when you call about insurance? No problem – leave the calling for pre-authorization to us. We’ll verify your coverage and help determine any out-of-pocket costs you may have. You can call the admissions team at either of our two locations for this free help.
