Beginners Meetings
Let’s start at the beginning when it comes to the NA meetings Phoenix has to offer.
When you’re new to Narcotics Anonymous meetings, you may prefer to be among peers who are just starting their recovery process. Beginner’s meetings are a great place to dip your toe in the water of what the rest of the NA program has to offer and begin to get acquainted with the fellowship.
You’ll find many other meetings suitable for beginners in Phoenix, Arizona, but rather than going to the first church you see and asking if they host NA gatherings, this one could be a great starting point.

A discussion group opens up the floor for anyone in attendance to share their struggles or other life experiences. This is also a great place to ask for assistance, support, and mentorship from long-standing members of the group.

This is something you can keep up with at home and can easily be worked into a busy schedule. If you just want a small soundbite to chew on during the day, these meetings can give you nuggets of wisdom to inspire your recovery.

Open Meetings
Some people prefer to meet only with other people who adhere to the NA program for peer support. For the most part, this means that they commit to meeting with other people struggling with substance use. However, it could be a good idea to bring along a supportive friend or family member to foster a better sense of understanding around recovery.
An open meeting provides a safe forum for both addicts and non-addicts alike. It’s a safe space for all to come around the Twelve Step program, ask for support, and ask questions about what might be the most helpful path forward.

Speaker Meetings
While discussion meetings are great for those who want to really connect with others in a similar stage of recovery, other people are a little more reserved in a group setting. Speaker meetings take the pressure to contribute off of members.
Instead, you can sit back and listen to someone talk about their personal experience. They will share what worked for them, talk about how they applied the Twelve Steps to their lives, or any other topic that may resonate with a particular group. You may not be asked to speak or share at all in this type of meeting.
