Outpatient Treatment for Anxiety and Depression

Outpatient Treatment for Anxiety and Depression at Purpose Healing Center – Compassionate Care, Lasting Relief

Find Mental Health Outpatient Treatment at Purpose Healing Center

Depression and anxiety disorders are some of the most common types of mental health conditions in the United States. Without treatment, they can impede day-to-day functioning and may lead to other challenges, like substance abuse, problems at work, or social isolation. However, a significant portion of those who need help for their mental health do not get treatment.

Outpatient treatment programs for anxiety and depression give you the freedom to keep participating in daily life activities while getting the support you need. Individuals in outpatient programs are able to live at home while getting therapy during the week and can often work, attend school, or take care of other responsibilities while making progress with their mental health symptoms.

Purpose Healing Center offers several intensive outpatient treatment programs with different time commitments. That way, you or your loved one seeking outpatient anxiety and depression treatment in Arizona can choose the one that works best for them.

Outpatient Treatment for Anxiety and Depression at Purpose Healing Center

Those seeking outpatient treatment for anxiety and depression in Arizona have options at Purpose Healing Center. Keeping in mind that all of our clients get individualized treatment plans based on their unique needs, here is a brief overview of our outpatient programs.

Mental Health Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Our mental health partial hospitalization programs in Phoenix and Scottsdale provide intensive treatment daily throughout the week but allow clients to spend their time at home or in transitional housing when therapy is over for the day.

Clients in our PHP participate in an all-day schedule of group therapy sessions and other activities five days per week. You will be assigned an individual therapist to work with regularly throughout treatment.

PHP can be an alternative to inpatient hospitalization for those who do not need around-the-clock care. Sometimes, it is also used as a step down from inpatient mental health treatment for those who have already finished a residential program. Most clients take time off of work for this program. If you need to take time off of work for PHP, Purpose Healing Center can help you make arrangements.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Mental Health

Rather than attend treatment daily, clients in our intensive outpatient program for mental health come to Purpose Healing Center for treatment about three days per week for around three hours per day.

Our intensive outpatient program for mental health is ideal for clients who need to balance work with anxiety or depression treatment or who have finished PHP and are ready to step down to a lower level of care.

Group sessions, individual therapy, and other treatment sessions will still be a part of your comprehensive treatment plan as an IOP client, but again, your exact schedule will depend on your unique recovery journey.

Benefits of Outpatient Treatment Programs for Anxiety and Depression

Outpatient programs provide a blend of flexibility and support. While inpatient hospitalization for mental health can be highly beneficial and necessary for some clients, people who are ready and able to participate in outpatient programs may favor them for several reasons. Here are some of the benefits of outpatient treatment programs for anxiety and depression.

  • Outpatient mental health programs can be more affordable than inpatient treatment because they do not include fees for room and board. Even better, the outpatient mental health programs at Purpose Healing Center are covered by most forms of insurance.
  • Living at home. Most clients who choose an outpatient program for anxiety and depression do so because they want the chance to live at home while getting treatment.
  • Gradual transition. Whether you start with an inpatient program and step down to PHP followed by IOP or start with PHP and move down to IOP, outpatient programs can help ease the transition from an intensive therapy program to everyday life.

Outpatient depression and anxiety treatment also gives you the chance to establish daily routines and habits that support your well-being in your current living environment. This can aid self-reliance and give clients the chance to practice coping skills, communication skills, and other strategies they learn through intensive outpatient therapy at our center.

What to Expect in Outpatient Treatment at Purpose Healing Center

What is the process of entering outpatient mental health treatment like? Here’s a little bit about what to expect before, during, and after our intensive outpatient therapy programs.

Initial Assessment for Outpatient Treatment

Before you start treatment, we’ll provide a confidential and commitment-free intake assessment. One of our friendly team members will call you at a scheduled time and ask questions about your current anxiety or depression symptoms.

At this time, we might ask questions like, “When did your anxiety or depression symptoms start?”

We will take care to ensure that outpatient treatment is right for you. If you are ready to proceed with outpatient anxiety and depression treatment, we will take the next steps and talk about what to expect as your admissions date approaches.

Creating an Individualized Treatment Plan

Creating an Individualized Treatment Plan

Our team will work with you closely to create your individualized treatment plan. Both Purpose Healing Center locations use the most evidence-based therapies for mental health disorders like anxiety and depression. Therapies used to treat depression and anxiety symptoms at our centers may include but aren’t limited to:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy is one of the most well-known therapies used for conditions like depression and anxiety disorders. When used as part of our intensive therapy programs for mental health concerns like anxiety, CBT can help clients like you navigate various situations or triggers. For example, you might talk about how to work through negative thought patterns using CBT techniques.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical behavior therapy can help manage anxiety and depression symptoms by providing mindfulness techniques, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation. DBT is great for teaching clients tangible skills to use in everyday life.

Family Therapy Sessions

In family therapy sessions, family members come together with the client and a licensed therapist. You might discuss various issues that emerge in your family relationships in these sessions, or you might talk about how to support and understand one another.

Psychoeducation can also be provided for family members who may not necessarily understand depression and anxiety symptoms.

Holistic Approaches and Other Treatments

Our centers in Phoenix and Scottsdale are very much a supportive community for whole-person well-being. Other treatments used in our intensive outpatient therapy programs include but aren’t limited to the following.

  • Skill development/skill-building workshops.
  • Art and music therapy.
  • Interpersonal psychotherapy.
  • Medication management.
  • Motivational therapies.
  • Lifestyle practices.

If you would like to learn more about what a typical day in one of our intensive outpatient programs is like, please call Purpose Healing Center.

Setting and Meeting Goals

Setting and Meeting Goals

Goals can be a vital part of mental health treatment. You will set goals with your individual therapist when you enter one of our outpatient programs. In weekly therapy sessions, you can talk about your progress toward these goals, discuss any barriers that get in your way, and talk with your therapist about steps you can take to reach your goals.

Your goals may change as you make progress in treatment. For this reason, you may set new goals throughout the treatment process.

Discharge and Relapse Prevention

We provide discharge planning for all clients. For clients in a mental health outpatient program, this will usually include ongoing medication management (if applicable), therapy 1-2 times per week, and relapse prevention strategies. It is important that you have support once treatment is over. Purpose Healing Center can refer you to providers, support groups, and other local resources as needed.

FAQs About Outpatient Treatment for Anxiety Disorders

What is the best treatment for depression and anxiety?

Evidence-based therapies like CBT, mindfulness-based CBT, and psychodynamic therapy paired with medications like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) treat depression in adults alongside lifestyle practices and healthy routines.

A similar approach is used for anxiety disorders like social anxiety or generalized anxiety disorder. Everyone’s journey is different, and we’re here to help you find what works for you.

What is outpatient care for anxiety?

Outpatient care for anxiety

Outpatient care for anxiety can refer to any anxiety treatment that does not require hospitalization. In outpatient care for anxiety, you’ll live at home (or in transitional housing) while seeing a mental health professional regularly.

This could mean anything from working with a therapist once per week to participating in groups, individual therapy sessions, and other treatments five days per week in a PHP.

Can you have both depression and anxiety?

Yes. Many people with anxiety also live with depression and vice versa.

How do you help someone with severe anxiety and depression?

Research shows that intensive outpatient treatment involving therapies like CBT and DBT is effective for treating severe depression and anxiety symptoms. Some people with severe symptoms may benefit from a more intensive program (like residential treatment) for mental health, depending on their wants, needs, and safety.

Purpose Healing Center will take great care in helping you or your loved one find the right approach to treatment.

Who is intensive outpatient treatment for?

Intensive outpatient programs for mental health are ideal for those who need more than traditional weekly outpatient therapy (e.g., once-weekly appointments) but who do not need care as intensive as an inpatient treatment program.
