Living Your Best Life During Recovery

Getting a loved one treatment

Once you are in recovery, you should feel proud to be where you are! You’ve taken the most critical step. But the story does not even there. Here are three things that you can do to maintain your recovery and build your best life:

Manage Your Emotions

To help you to feel in control of what happens in your life, it’s important to feel like you can manage your response to people and situations. And while it is true that we can not control the things that others do around us, we can in part help to make situations better by how we respond to them. For example, when under stress, it’s important to take a step back and think about how you’d best like to respond.

Choose the Right Friends

To help you in your recovery, it’s critical to surround yourself with people who support and care about you. This can also help you to remain motivated on challenging days. To help you determine if your friendships are the right ones, do you feel like they care about your personal growth and commitment to recovery? And are they in any way becoming an obstacle to the new life you want to achieve?

Think About Your Future

With an addition issue in your history, finding a new job or going back to school may seem hard at first. But there are organizations and groups that can help you prepare to do just that. And on a more personal level, deciding to find purpose in your own life will help you to discover your “why?” – and to help keep you in lasting recovery.
